The Ethiopian destroyed rival Kenyan Paul Tergat’s previous record of 2:04:55 by throwing down a 2:04:26 on Berlin’s flat and fast course. Tergat had initially set it in Berlin as well, back in 2005 and Geb had come close previously only to fall short in the last 6km or so.
His half-marathon split was a firm 62:29. For those interested, his pace was a cool 4:45 per mile.
To break it down even further, his 5k splits (a marathon is 40k) were: 14:44, 14:43, 14:50, 14:54, 14:55, 14:51, 14:43, 14:30. Yikes.
Geb has now at one point held 6 separate world records, 4 of which are STILL standing.

A little thing called SAT’s is taking away a precious opportunity to conquer all that is Holmdel, but no worries…the younger guys on the team are ready to pick up the slack after introducing themselves to the course this past weekend in a much-anticipated workout on this Saturday’s course.
For the Paul VI guys going up, the schedule was released this past weekend and looks like this:
Boy’s Varsity D Race 10:15am
Boy’s Freshman B Race 12:15pm
Boy’s JV C Race 12:45pm
Though subject to changes, the tentative departure time for Holmdel this coming Saturday, 10/6, will be 7:15am! Race participants will be posted later this week…let’s get ready for a good week of work.
