Paul VI XC has taken another significant step in their quest to put this program back on the map. In the preseason too! Which means the guys clearly will have to replicate these efforts and significantly improve upon them once the season begins, but this kind of progress is certainly rewarding. We had many PRs, many debuts, and some fantastic performances…The Run for Tony 5k had more participants than ever before and we put 6 in the top 40. We will refrain from too much detail, but this ‘time trial’ yielded results that bode well for the future…

This will be a recurring post…but only if you guys provide me with the information I need! I’m trying to compile information about every team in PAUL VI’s long and storied past. Please send me what you can:
For this particular project, we are trying to piece together the best team in PAUL VI XC history! Only way to do that is by using STATE PAROCHIAL A meet times, held at Holmdel Park. That way it’s an even playing field…
Yes, I know some people might have had bad days, “missed the race”, been sick – but it certainly gives you an idea of what kind of powerhouse we were and still CAN be! Please add in the comments any additions or corrections you have! Thanks…
WHO IS THE BEST PAUL VI XC TEAM OF ALL TIME???
This is meant to be fun, but it looks like the Class of 1988 five led by Jason DiJoseph and fantastically supported by the Cieslik brothers (Matt and Vince), Joe Cranston, and Pete Dougherty take the cake. Certainly was close – 77 to 88, but those were easily two of the best teams (and let’s not forget the 1994 squad) in New Jersey XC history.
Challenge to the current squad – can we work ourselves back up to the top?! My answer is a resounding “hell yes”. It may take a while, but let’s give the alums something to be proud of.

Here’s a list of who I have going to camp:
McKean
Rankin
Hoban
Hubbs
O’Donnell
Gallagher
Vadino
Holland
Connelly
Mastrando
Catrino
Which means that those stuck at home with coach better be making it out to every practice we have (you will get information on that soon).
FOR THOSE GOING TO CAMP, WE ARE MEETING on SUNDAY AT PVIHS at 7:45AM and carpooling down. Drivers – Coach Rankin, Coach Bonnette, Hubbs, Hoban
Are there parents that can pick up? Or another that can be stand by to drive a couple kids down to camp? (There are 11).
AMONG OTHER THINGS, YOUR ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS – RUNNING-WISE
- TWO pairs of running shoes (if possible)
- A LOT of running shorts, at least one for each day
- warm clothes
- snacks (NutriGrain bars, Clif bars, PowerBars – something you can eat if the camp food doesn’t fulfill you)
- a lot of t-shirts
- your brain (please be smart about aches and pains down there – general rule of thumb, if something bothers you for more than one day, tell someone about it and take the appropriate steps to prevent the injury from getting worse)
For many of you – if not all – this will be your highest week of mileage. So be ready for that. And have fun…

PVIXC Alums,
Please come and join us – the current Boys XC team – on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th, 2008 at GLOUCESTER COUNTY COLLEGE (see directions tab). Either join us to get a run in and meet everybody or gather 5-7 fellow alums and form a team to take on the Current Eagles. Regardless, come run with us.
We are looking to have some sort of event after the race – which STARTS AT 10:00AM by the way, a barbeque of some sorts. There is word we might not be able to do that on GCC’s property. But once confirmed, I will let you know…so keep a look out! The race is 5,000 meters. The entry fees are $10, pre-9/12/08, or $15 on race day.
REGISTRATION FORM CAN BE PRINTED OUT HERE: pvi-5k-alumni-run-2008. Or you can call to register: 856-858-4900, ext. 36.
Whether you are in shape, out of shape, or just want to come meet the team and see other alumni – please join us on September 13th!
SIDENOTE: We are looking to get as many e-mails as possible for all PAST EAGLES. So if you want to be updated on how the team is doing every now and again, please e-mail your contact information to bbonnette@pvihs.org. Also, let us know if you’re planning on going to race in the COMMENTS SECTION below…
We hope to see you in September,
Coach Bonnette, Coach Rankin and the 2008-09 PVIXC Squad…
