November 8th, 2009

Alec Connelly heisted All-American honors at the NJCAA National Championships with a 13th place finish leading GCC to an incredible 7th place finish, one of their best results in years. Congratulations Alec!

Senior Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) battled sickness to still finish well at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. He will be disappointed to miss out on Nationals (especially with the season he has had so far) but he should feel comfortable knowing he had a fantastic year all-around. One that confirmed him as one of the best harriers in Philadelphia University history! D’Andrea covered the 10k course at Franklin Park in Boston, MA in 33:38 (good for a 5:25 avg.) for a 34th place finish.

Halloween brought good news for Alec Connelly (‘09) as he helped lead his GCC Roadrunners to a 2nd place finish in their NJCAA District Meet in Westfield, MA. The team qualified for the NJCAA National Championship held in New York next weekend and Connelly’s 9th place finish (while battling illness) grabbed him All-District honors in his first year.

GCC hosted this year’s Region 19 XC Championships and the hosts delivered with Alec Connelly (‘09) on point.
It was a close team battle but Connelly’s 2nd place finish allowed GCC to take the championship 31-42 over Cumberland CC and for him to take All-Region honors.

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) led the Philadelphia U. Rams to a dominating title run with his 2nd place finish at the CACC XC Championships this past weekend. Traversing the tough hills of Belmont Plateau, D’Andrea ran 27:29 wrapping up 2nd place by over 25 seconds. His teammates followed suit, running 4th, 5th, 6th, and 15th to grab the first team sweep in CACC history (both the boys and girls won!). Congratulations Shawn!

October 10th, 2009

Alec Connelly (‘09) was back in action at the DeSales Invite this weekend as his GCC squad took on some tough competition in Allentown, PA. Connelly finished 58th out of over 300 runners, finished first on his squad in a respectable time of 28:33 for the 5-mile course. As a frosh, Alec got the chance to go against some tough squads like Dickinson, West Chester, and Rowan – faring very well.

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) followed up his win at the Paul Short Invite with a tough race at the Cabrini Invite. The former PVI harrier finished 7th in a very nice time of 26:55. His high stick allowed the Rams to grab a 3rd place finish out of 14.

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) gets MVP honors this week after a fantastic win at the Paul Short Invite. It took an amazing PR of 25:39 (5:10 per mile) to crack the field of 250 but D’Andrea did so…a huge feat. He beat out harriers from all over the continent while leading his team to a 7th place finish out of almost 30 teams. Congrats Shawn! (Race took place on Fri, Oct 2nd in Bethlehem, PA)

A second weekend in a row for Alec Connelly (‘09) at the storied Belmont Plateau. The freshman ran a tough race to take 13th and help pace his Roadrunners to a 4th place finish overall.

September 26th, 2009

Both Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) and Alec Connelly (‘09) ran great races this past weekend at the Philly Metro Invite held at the storied Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. D’Andrea, a senior, finished 2nd out of 124 runners with a fantastic time of 26:24, leading Philadelphia University to the team win. Connelly, a frosh, helped the GCC Rams to a fifth-place finish after placing 15th in a time of 28:21. Another PR on an even more difficult course. Both continue to get stronger as the season rolls along.

September 19th, 2009

Alec Connelly (‘09) once again led the GCC Roadrunners this time to the Mule-Falcon Invitational championship held in Allentown, PA. His time of 28:24 was good enough for 2nd place overall out of 65 runners. It was a :14 second PR as the Roadrunners continue to get stronger and stronger.

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) continued his hot start to the season by placing 2nd at the UDel XC Invite averaging 5:25/mile at White Clay State Park in Newark, DE. His time of 26:55 would have placed him 6th in the NCAA Division I race. His place, however, helped the Philadelphia University Rams to a 2nd place finish, outpacing the likes of Rowan and Stockton College.

September 12th, 2009

Second race, second win of the season for ‘05 graduate Shawn D’Andrea. His win, in a time of 27:38, dominated the field but couldn’t keep his Phila Univ. Rams from losing by one point to Wilmington University.

September 5th, 2009

Last year’s lone senior and All-Conference performer Alec Connelly (‘09) raced in his first collegiate race. After a productive summer, the work paid off early on as he grabbed his first collegiate win out over 50 racers at the Dukes Invite in Vineland, NJ. Connelly was 1st on a GCC squad that finished team-wise as runner-ups. A great start – his time was 28:38 for an 8k (his first time racing that distance).

September 1st, 2009

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) started off his senior year nicely for the Philadelphia Univ. Rams as they got under way at the Haverford College time trials. D’Andrea won, running 15:19 for 3 miles, beating a field of 40 consisting of runners from St. Joseph’s, La Salle, and Temple.

Weekend of November 8th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) paced the Philadelphia University Rams to a 10th place team finish at the NCAA East Regionals held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The junior finished 17th, shattering the school’s 10k record in the process. He ran Franklin Park’s 10k course in 32:25, averaging 5:13 a mile, and destroying the old Phila Univ. 10k record by 25 seconds.

Weekend of October 25th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) once again shone for the Phila U. Rams, leading the team to a 3rd Place finish at the CACC Championships. D’Andrea finished 3rd in the race, running 27:19 on the fabled Belmont Plateau course.

Weekend of October 11th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) paced the Phila U. Rams to a 4th place finish at the Cabrini Invitational with a 2nd place finish of his own, running 26:28.9 on a challenging 8k course.

Weekend of October 4th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) paced the Philadelphia University harriers to a 2nd place team finish at the Goldey Beacom Invite this past weekend. He did so by winning the race by a solid :27 seconds in 27:33. D’Andrea will next run at the Cabrini Invite this coming weekend. We must also congratulate Shawn for being named the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference Athlete of the Week for the THIRD WEEK IN A ROW!!!!

Weekend of September 27th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) continued his winning ways, this time by winning the prestigious Belmont Classic, held at the Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. The former PVI Eagle finished 1st out of 167 runners as he continues his run for a National Qualifier.

Weekend of September 20th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) placed 3rd at the Philly Metro Championships for Philadelphia University. His time of 26:21 was a PR and led his squad to a 53-70 victory over Rutgers-Camden for the team title. Mike Fiore (‘07) was in the same race and finished a respectable 56th place with a time of 31:25. Both are Sophomores this year. The Philly Metro meet is held every year at Belmont Plateau in Philly’s Fairmount Park.

Weekend of September 13th, 2008

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) was the top runner in a 13-team field at the Wilmington Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, DE. He finished the 8k first in a time of 28:28 while leading his Philadelphia University teammates to a meet win. Mike Fiore (‘07) was also in this meet, finishing 52nd and third on his Gloucester County College team.

Weekend of August 29th, 2008

The season started nicely for former PVI runner and current Phila Univ. harrier Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) as he took 1st at the Haverford XC Time Trials. D’Andrea finished first with a time of 15:22 for 3 miles (a sub 16:00 5k equivalent!).

Weekend of April 4th, 2008

Mike Fiore (‘07) finished 15th in the 5k running a respectable time of 17:02 for Gloucester County College at the Osprey Open in Pomona, NJ.

Weekend of March 28th, 2008

Mike Fiore (‘07) finished 32nd in the 5,000m run at the Danny Curran Invite in Chester, PA. His time was 17:06.

Tim Miles (‘04) ran a great race for Haverford College in the ever-daunting 3k Steeplechase. He finished in 6th in 10:29.

Weekend of March 22nd, 2008

Mike Fiore (‘07) pulled double duty for the GCC Rams at the Stockton Invitational. He first ran well enough for 15th place in the 1500m with a 4:41 time. He then came back and anchored GCC’s DMR (Distance Medley Relay) to an 11:18 time which grabbed them 2nd place.

Week of January 28th, 2008

Tim Miles (‘04) finished 26th in the 3,000 meters at the McElligott Invitiational held at Haverford College. His time was 9:33. The winner was Haverford’s Elias Tousley in a time of 8:34.

Week of January 14th, 2008

Tim Miles (‘04) finished 14th in the 5,000 meter run at the NYU Gotham Cup in New York City. His time was 16:42.

Week of December 3rd, 2008

Haverford’s Tim Miles (‘04) finished 16th in the 3K at the Pyrah Invitational, hosted by Villanova University. His time was 9:32.

Week of November 10th, 2007

Mike Fiore (‘07) finished 16th at the NJCAA Division III National Championships held at Sunken Meadows State Park in Kings Park, NY (one of the hardest courses on the East Coast). Fiore was first for Gloucester County College in 28:42 leading them to a 6th place team effort. Congrats Mike!

Week of November 3rd, 2007

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) placed 50th at the NCAA Division II East Regionals with a respectable time of 33:29 for the 10k race, averaging 5:24 per mile. He was the first finisher for Philadelphia University in a 17th place team performance.

Mike Fiore (‘07) continued a great season with a 5th place finish at the NJCAA District Championships in Westfield, MA. Fiore finished in 28:00 and was the high stick for the 2nd place GCC squad.

Week of October 27th, 2007

GCC harrier Mike Fiore (‘07) helped his team capture the NJCAA Region XIX championship by two points over Cumberland County College with a second place finish in the 8k race. It was GCC’s first championship since 2002.

Week of October 20th, 2007

Shawn D’Andrea (‘05) led Philadelphia University’s XC team to a 2nd place finish at the CAC Conference Championships. He finished runner-up out of 64 finishers to Paul Chegwidden from Felician College running a respectable 27:29!

Mike Fiore (‘07) finished 2nd out of 132 runnerse at the Saint Joseph’s Invitational held at one of the most challenging courses in New York, Sunken Meadows. His time of 28:55 led Gloucester County College to a 2nd place finish out of 17 teams.

Week of October 13th, 2007

Former PVI harrier Mike Fiore (‘07) finished 34th in 28:29 (8k) at the DeSales Invite in Center Valley, PA leading Gloucester County College to a 13th place finish out of 20 teams.

Shaun D’Andrea (‘05) led Philadelphia University with a 27th place finish over a hilly White Clay course at the Delaware Invitational. His time was 27:53.
